I've started a classic literature site at Fanatics4Classics. The site was a culmination of more than a year's browsing through Gutenberg, Amazon, and several other book websites trying to build a literature list to build the foundation of my children's education. Take a look and see if you like. It consists of more than 70 pages of recommended books, categorized by reading level and genre, over 1400 links to free books at Gutenberg, and Torrent files to download the entire Gutenberg collection in either epub (non-Kindle) or mobi (Kindle) formats.

What it takes to be fit!

Every week, it never fails that I turn on the TV or see news concerning some new diet or exercise that will get us fit, but at a cost. What if I tell you that there is a man named Mark Sisson at marksdailyapple.com who has figured out a diet that will work for just about everyone, and he's giving the information FREE on his blog? Now, if you want, you can read his books. The original is called The Primal Blueprint, with a more recent followup called The Primal Blueprint 21 Day Total Transformation. I have read the first book, but not the newer one.

Mark's information will transform the mysteries of weight loss, strength and conditioning into something you can understand, so you stop feeling like your weight and health are a mystery, and fitness is forever out of your grasp.

I'm going to give you a quick run down of the basics. Mark says weight loss is 80% diet and 20% activity. Figure out what foods are good for you and dump most of the junk, and you are well on your way to getting were you want to go.

The foods that are good for you are are on Mark's shopping list. The short and simple answer is the best foods are non-starchy vegetables and natural animal meats, but also includes other foods that have good nutrients in them. With the meat, it doesn't matter what animal it comes from, or if it's low or high fat. It turns out the low fat diet craze that people have been following has been causing the obesity epidemic. So, eat what tastes great from these two food groups with no guilt, and you will find yourself getting healthier, needing to eat less, and losing or gaining weight towards a healthier body. A good way to think about how important both green plants and meat are to consider what are some of the healthiest and most athletic animals in the nature. Both quick herbivores and predators are healthy and athletic and depend primarily on vegetation or meat exclusively, and they are the healthiest animals on earth.

What shouldn't you be eating? Grains like wheat, oats, rice, and corn (especially high fructose corn syrup); starchy potatoes and processed sugar. These are the primary sources of carbohydrates which is what your body will store as fat. This includes not only the items we usually think of as bad such as cookies, cake, sugary cereals, frosting, donuts, chips and candy, but also things we've been taught are healthy or neutral like whole grain bread, multi-grain cereal, pasta, crusts, bagels and tortillas.

Mark also recommends other important healthy habits like getting sufficient sleep and spending time in the sunshine with getting moderate exercise. The recommended level of exercise is a 20 minute weight exercise and a 20 minute sprint workout, and a half hour to hour of walking most days. Despite Mark being a former distance runner, he recommends against extensive cardiovascular. He recommends supplementing these exercises with a few minutes a day of a mix of push-ups, chin-ups, squats, planks, and overhead presses.

The most important thing any of us can lay claim to is ourselves, so put in an optimal amount of effort and eat the right things, and you'll be on your way to living a healthier and happier life.
